We made it!

YEAR ONE! just flew by! so many things have changed, and as I said to Justin last night over the top of our wedding cake (we were iffy about eating it , as it had been in the freezer for the plast year... but never fear, it was delish) and there were so many unexpected things that I didn't know we'd have to "adjust to" thoroughout the year. In so many ways, I felt like we already were a little "family" prior to the wedding... but words cannot explain the good feeling knowing that it was official and we are all HEITS.. making our own little history here. The year has been full of learning experiences and lots of learning to compromise and be a team, instead of each of us living with eachother's independent ways. More than taking care of eachother, it is about seeing myself as half of a whole. Happy Anniversary, babe. (ya, we subbed the good champagne for milk this year. RAGERS!)

Congratulations Laquita and Darryl

Another sister joins the club. Liz and Darryl officially tied the knot over the weekend and had a gorgeous reception chez Marre. We are so excited about sharing our anniversary weekend with some of our best friends.

Sweet Shower

Once again, Stefanie outdoes Martha with all of the adorable touches she brought up on their road trip to Oregon... personalized stationery favors, "make your own onsie" embroidery "bar" and adorable alphabet decorations. Kate and mom did the infamous sugar cookies and it was so awesome to see the old Portland friends... the weekend overall really made me realize how much I miss you so much.

Summer Luau

The Lady Di's favorite summer theme, a good ol' Luau! All of us girls were home (lest we forget ol' Joe, he's always home) and a celebration was in order... Kate's done with WSU and moving on to her new adventures in Austin, Stef and Jordan are headlong into wedding planning for '08, and you know who is having a baby... (one more little kekei for next year's luau) Joe was man of honor with his fancy sash.... and "da kine" ribs brought to us in part by Melissa, the butcher (girl)friend (for reals!) and the delish "grind" all from the Lady's little apartment kitchen. Never ceasing to amaze us.

Cool down

Nothing like some pool time with the Turners and popcicles.. especially when they're FIRECRACKER popcicles with pop rocks in them??!! whoever invented that is a genious. I can't wait to see the "Unwrapped" with Mark Sommers on how they make those "frozen confections"

Grow up, stay small

Jadyn Heit circa January 2006

So, we know this is textbook child development stuff, but we still look at one another dumbfounded, annoyed, and kind of frustrated when Jadyn displays her "I'm not going to be the baby around here much longer" behavior.. nothing really dramatic, just the completely understandable clinging to what has always been, for her entire life, her turf. HER blankets, HER toys, HER dad.. and no one else's. Yet, we can tell she is excited, and the whole "starting first grade" and being a "big girl" and a "big sister" is an attractive proposition for her, so we can tell, her poor little spirit is torn. Most of the time, she is a big help (my assistant, afterall) and very proud of any kind of responsibilities she has. And it almost breaks my heart to see her as such a mini grown up... trying to shed her old ways, give up her old toys and stop saying those words that we all know she misprounounces, but love to hear, so don't correct her.

I will miss it when she stops holding my hand to cross the parking lot, and I will miss hearing her say "Kah-Koozie" instead of jacuzzi ... "YOU-sick" instead of music, "PACK-pack" instead of backpack... "POT-cicle" instead of popcicle.."LOOS-ually" instead of usually...and there are more little jems I'm sure I'll remember as I post this.

I guess it's just one more time in this life when we get so anxious for the future we don't realize the things we'll really long to have back. Little Jbird is growing into the big sister we hoped she'd be.. and now we almost cry remembering how she has changed. Soon, we won't wish she could read better and wanted to read more.. we won't be pounding our heads with our fists wondering how to get it through to her that "reading is FUN!!" ..no, one day soon, we'll be wishing she wasn't reading the celebrity gossip magazines and her friend's myspace pages.

I wish I was Evie in that one show from the 80s where she could just freeze time by holding her fingers together.. what was that called? And enjoy everything that is perfect the way it is. Not wish for tomorrow , or the next day, year or month.. just enjoy today... because it will all pass faster than we can catch it.

Julia's closet

It's kind of rare that Jbird is into dress-up these days... unless coerced by Auntie Ju-ya, her idol... love that this is all stuff from Julia's daily wardrobe... just call her the prop house...

Rasta Jbird... love the missing front tooth.. ja know, no dental care for the brothas

Pochahantas "Stu's actual headress"??->>

<<<---Pacino can't even bear this costume.

loving that this is Sandy's "real Laura Ashley" dress..and that the little one even has matching shoes...

We aren't white trash or anything...

Take your seats, one and all.. and if all of the lawn/ beach chairs are taken, well, pull up old carseats and broken rocking chairs for the BIG WEEKEND events at Silverado Street: Garage party! Yes, this is what we exciting families do since we don't go out on the town on Friday nights... whooo hoo!! who wants to go OUT or have dinner at a restaurant, right?

Summer Feet. Such a punchstain/ carnie kid with her cutoffs (she is obsessed with them.. if they're dirty, she would just as soon wear jeans on a 100 degree day than any other cute short option we have for her).. looooves her cutoffs... and dirty tarball feet.

Connect Four Tourney... I'm so bummed this picture doesn't really capture the whole essence of the evening. Some good old fashioned Milton Bradley fun by the street lights and our lowly garage bulb, amidst the piles of kids toys, holiday decorations, surf junk and misc other "storage" that is our garage. Feuled by Christina's gourmet hors d'ouevres served from atop a thrift store dresser waiting to be repainted.

Reading Corner

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini
In the same vain as The Kite Runner, I cannot put it down, as much as it haunts me.

Junie B. Jones.. Jadyn's latest favorite. We crack up reading this every night. Her first introduction to chapter books. We are so hooked on the series. Ironically, the first one we chose, was about Junie B.'s new baby brother.
