Birthday treats

Campbell coerced me into staying home from school so he could be with Leo on his "real" birthday... and he was determined that he would learn to walk on this day... first things first, he needed a cake (cupcakes) from VGs.

J baked her first batch of (the famous) Nana B sugar cookies all by herself this Easter... she even colored the dough green and pink, just like the Williams Sonoma deco kit (thanks, Aunt Terry). They were extremely edible... good job, Bird!

Haute cuisine with the Roses.

SUCH a treat to have Jeff Quicksilver Rose, chef extraordinaire, come over and cook for us the most amazing (that term seems so overused, but I mean it, probably the best food we've ever eaten... better than any restaurant by far) 5? course meal, paired with awesome wines and fantastic company. The Roses are like family, always welcome guests (especially if they're bringing the food and booze..ha) with lots of laughter and fun for every member of the family..

In true Jeff form, they arrived bags, boxes, ice cream maker, bottles in hand.. and he says 'oh, I forgot to make the pasta'... what? I'm thinking this dinner is going to take all night.. as I look for toothpicks to hold up my eyelids.. but no! this night was so exciting and delish, we all got in on the act... He whipped up pasta in 10 minutes and hooked up the attachment to my mixer.. made it look so easy, even Campbell could do it?? I would post the entire menu here, but anyone reading it would drool on their keyboards and probably cause damage to their computers because it as all so good. I'm getting hungry just remembering it. They really spoiled us.

Ah! the Second Annual Sunriver Benz Birthday Weekend Cooking Challenge! I know more photos are circling of this sacred event.. the stakes are really raising, and, speaking as a judge this year, it was a professional presentation and game well played by all teams!

Winter has proven to be productive and inspiring so far, even with the rain in California. In honor of Jbird and my favorite groundhog,I could not resist this post by the Junior Society. Thanks for the tip, Bethany!

Benz Birthday Weekend Family Cooking (and eating) Challenge

What a fun getaway to celebrate Nana B and Big Poppi's 60ths in SunRiver, Oregon. Stef and Jordan conceived the "Top Chef"esque cooking challenge for which the honorees and their cohorts (the honorary Benzes.. the Prossers) were judges (and Jadyn got to sit at the judges table, too). We loved the real fall feeling weather being up in the mountains and all of the laughter (and bacon grease) being together with everyone. A rare treat.

Family bike ride will be a lifetime memory... so awesome to have dad back from the injured list. Biking was a piece of cake for a wounded ankle (fueled by bacon?)... rad mountian bike, Jbird.

VG's Donuts.. a Cardiff institution. Jadyn, and of course Campbell's favorite treat. He just couldn't decide.. Cookie monster cake, cupcake, cookie... I can't deny my own sweet tooth, either. Who doesn't get excited about fried, sugary dough?
