Campbell's Fan Club

The Benz Bunch descended on the Bluffs this week, (we miss you, Kate) and we are so sad to see Nana B go home. When do we get our private jet to make Portland-San Diego travel easier? I have been bawling for 12 hours (hormonal, much?) seeing my mom leave. She has been making us the best breakfasts, filled our fridge with dinners for the week, cleaned our house, took care of the kids and just made me feel like I was being taken care of, even in the midst of sort of feeling like I'm falling apart. I guess it's sleep deprivation and the non-stop worry that I'm doing this wrong or that the baby isn't eating enough, sleeping too much, not sleeping enough, is turning yellow, isn't growing, is lethargic... aaaak.. what does the "Baby Whisperer" say? what do all my mom-friends say? Everyone has their two cents and I want to know.. I should just turn this computer off and try to nap, instead, I'm online searching for "feeding help" and reading OPBs about nursing and sleeping and schedules... I am going a little nuts, but know I need to take a deep breath and realize we'll figure it out. It has only been one week since we got home and we are just getting all of the kinks worked out and healing, growing and learning here.

Nice custom tees. :)

Uncle Joe.. can't wait for Campbell to be a Beaver fan... might have to wait till football season is over??

smiles for big sis
Uncle Jordan and Auntie Stef
I don't think dressing him up is ever going to get old. I can't believe he'll be big enough for these before we know it.
Jadyn says "he is just like a peach"...awe. so true

aaah. so handsome.

Campbell is the 4th generation to use this basinette... yes, come hell or high water or oregon-trail-covered wagon, we got it down to southern California just in time for his arrival.

September 1st. We're Home sweet home... feels so good to be out of that hospital room.

Welcome to your new world, little (teeny) man!

Happy BIRTH day!

Last shot of Campbell "backstage" ... the scariest morning of my life.. I was a wreck.. freaked out about the surgery and still in disbelief that we were about to meet this little human. Before Jadyn left for school, she predicted the baby would be "Chloe"... and Dad and I woke up still deliberating on our choice of boy names

After nearly passing out from the glimpse of the surgery.. Dad has the surprise of his life with his baby boy... of course no event complete witout a good "justinism"...he's wearing his OR "SHrubs"

fresh out!!!

J.bird meets big C for the first time... she's pretty stoked on her "big sis" gifts, too.

the 3 split seconds that he stays swaddled.. his little legs and arms kick out of the burrito wrap in no time.

Thursday afterschool.. officially ONE day old. And big sis is so proud.. wore her "badge" all day. Skipped soccer practice to come visit her bro.

Friday morning in our glamourous hospital room.. He's getting bigger, right?

Big Sister comes for a visit on Friday afternoon. She is the offical "rotector of her baby brother," she told everyone at school... I think that means PROtector... awe, she is her father's daughter.

Campbell in his ONE outfit that fits him... I don't know why the hospital puts newborns in these karate shirts that I swear are size 2T... He was so happy to be in his fitted frenchie onesie. aaah.

After the days and nights that all ran into one another at the hospital were over and it was time for Campbell and me to see the light of day...we were so anxious to get home to our "new" life... and really put that diaper genie to use. ha.

Kirbys welcomed the newest kid on the block... Look out Olivia... you're old news. ;)

One more day...

My personal photographer thought we should document the baby one last time before it meets the big bright world outside the womb. I think we are ready here... well, Jadyn can't decide if she's ready/ excited or not.. all she knows is that she wants a haircut before the baby comes...that's this morning's news.

Go Tigers!

Jadyn's big first soccer game! It was only 125 degrees out in San Elijo as the Tigers beat the "Pixies" (ya, real tough name.. ha, I'm mean. Sorry, but their team had a girl crying the entire game)... She has come a long way from last year's Pee Wee team where J was the only girl on an all boy team. This is SERIOUS soccer. She hussles her little booty off (ALMOST had 2 goals) and everyone LOVES her one-of-a-kind "Rambo" style. Headbands are a part of her gear, no matter if it's practice or a game.. I think they should be instituted as part of the official uniform, right? Justin and I cheer like its the World Cup, we love it.

Jadyn's littlest fan... for the next 3 days!

Dream without sleeping

I am getting so excited I can't sleep. I know, I need to sleep. I'll never have a full night's sleep again... never sleep in on a school day OR a weekend, for that matter.. or at least it will be much more rare. But I am consumed with a constant barrage of thoughts and dreams and "what will it be like" thoughts about this new little baby. At night, it's all about "what will I do to calm the baby down?" " I hope I can feed the baby and it doesn't have colic" and of course "won't the baby be so cute in the little sling going to Jbird's soccer games" and "I can't wait to use the Bob and jog all around San Elijo.. maybe I'll join the stroller club.."

But my thoughts during the day are always in relationship to my thoughts about Jadyn. Even before being pregnant, I would look at the clock while she was at school and wonder what she was doing.. or when she's not with us, I wonder what is keeping her attention. Is she happy? Is she causing trouble? Is she laughing? Is she making us proud? Is she making up stories or is she being a good friend? Is she eating the healthy things in her lunchbox or did she go straight for the "froot by the foot" like I would have and throw away the healthy stuff to make me think she ate it?

I never have second guessed my love for Jadyn. I remember the day I met her, how she grabbed my hand and waddled her little diaper butt up the big hills at the San Diego Zoo...and changing her diaper for the first time (on our first "family" date) in the bathroom at Fillipes downtown. She has always been so good natured and we have always had a strong bond. I'm her "Bibif" and she's my "Jbird". I have, by default been her mom in this family, and I know she counts on me and knows I will be there for all of the things that moms are there for... but I also know the biological bond that she has with the woman who gave birth to her. I don't know how to explain it, because of course, she is too young to put it into words and I would never want her to even believe for one second that she would need to define any of her feelings... she has never expected anything but what was given from either one of us, the beauty of innocence, but also the unquestioning love for a mother.

I know there are things I will never understand, but I am so excited and anxious to experience the whole thing from the beginning. I can only anticipate the feelings being amplified knowing that this little being inside of me has depended on only me for the past 9+ months. How will I ever share him/her? I hope I am good at this, I pray that I can keep calm, I wish I would have read more books to the baby in the womb, or listened to more classical music instead of Keith Urban or whatever Jadyn is into in the car, I wish I would have done more squats... My head is spinning, so I can't sleep. already.
