Hang Loose Hawaii

The family set off for our first BIG trip since becoming four. Jbird has been "dying" to go to Hawaii since asked to be the flower girl for Jess and Thad way back last year. It was an action packed long weekend, full of fun and wedding festivites. We are so lucky to have friends like these. We were treated like royalty and had a once in a lifetime experience.

ALoooooHa

Beautiful couple, amazing day. Everyone in this party was a genuine true blue. All of these girls have made me feel like we've been friends forever.. Thad and Jess just draw a good crew. Congratulations, you two. You make an awesome team. We love you so much and feel so lucky to have been a part of such a great weekend wedding celebration!!

getting ready with Auntie Jdawg on the BIG DAY. I cannot believe it has come and gone. What a wedding. Jess was a real celebrity, looked absolutely stunning and the setting(s) were absolutely out of this world. There was a lot of love going around.. everthing was impeccable.. right out of Martha Stewart/ In Style weddings... but cooler.

I love Jadyn's pictures.. there were tons of these little sneak pix on my camera.. with her "shaka" in front of her chosen subject. ha

How cute is this funny little rocker from Auntie Becki/ Fonse? C loved it.. it vibrated, to boot!!

Jbird with her American Idol, "Jdawg"... Jadyn couldn't have been more happy following around Jess at the luau party.. (sorry, dawg) she has been wearing her lei since we got home, putting it in the fridge each day after school!! Her sharing "what are you thankful for" was all about the wedding, Hawaii, and her coconut purse for the flowers. (Last week's sharing was your favorite family member, and she chose "auntie" Jdawg for that, too)

don't you love it when the OTHER PERSON says "oh, I don't want one, I'm not hungry at all", then proceeds to steal yours? Funny how that works..

um, ya, never one to resist the sweets here.

Dad did get to catch some waves..

Jadyn was so excited to be at the surf contest.. so excited about EVERYTHING in Hawaii... it was sweet. She wore her contest tee shirt all day.

Campbell chills in his cool tent... Ok, nerdy disclaimer (as though it's a departure from my seriously intellectual banter) my struggle in the humid, hawaiian sun: do I put him in long sleeves or put sunscreen on him? (They say not under 3 months??) I opted for the (light weight, mind you) long sleeves, but dad was freaking out.. "what are you THINKING?? The kid is going to die of heat exhaustion!" thankyouverymuch, he is still with us (although he was really sweaty)

all dressed up..

Follow up on the candy caper...

So, I did my due diligence and called Reeses. I figured we had gone this far, why drop the ball? It may have been a bad batch, after all. After getting through the extensive automated menu, (no, I do not want to plan an event at the Hershey's factory...nor do I want the nutritional information... unless it involves a sting operation of the people responsible for tampering with these damned peanut butter cups)I got a nice operator on the line. I proceeded to describe the situation, the smell and effect that the candy had.. blah blah.. she explains it so matter-of-factly, that the chocolate is very sensitive, and must have been SHELVED NEXT TO THE MEDICINE AND THE SMELL SEEPED IN ?????

"Well, how likely is that?", I ask. I mean, I've seen some bad merchandising at WalMart and stuff, but medicine with the candy? "Ok, well, let's have the batch number on the candy," she says...so I give her the codes and she says, "This just seems like it must be stale."

Ok, we're getting nowhere.. obviously, it doesn't enter this gal's mind to worry about other kids who might have eaten this candy or the fact that someone needs to get it back to Hersheys that the wrappers are extremely un-tamper-proof..but whatever... long story short, Heits are getting some coupons and free Reeses stuff. I'll be sure to taste test all of it, naturally.

Urban Legend come to life...

(the evidence...sealed, naturally, in a zip-lock...just waiting to submit for genetic (?) testing)

Yes, we had some tampered candy this halloween.. seriously! No razor blades, and it wasn't a random apple from a witch-like old lady neighbor..... but, it was the kind that are not really sealed, you know? like the four corners of the wrapper are just folded and lightly glued, so some creep's mischievous poison can be easily inserted?? Anyway, luckily it was Justin who took the bite that tasted like medicine and made his tounge numb... cherry Nyquil, he says... and it smelled of the same. Super wierd! We went through and found several of the same smelling PB cups, and I called the poison control upon waking up the following morning... (he spit it out, so I figured the chances of him dying were pretty slim... and I can vouch for the fact that the Kit Kats, Snickers, and M&Ms were tamper free.. I went ahead and tested a bunch of them)

Poison Control told me to call the police.. so this house had a lot of action going on for Miss Nancy Drew (Jadyn) before she even left for school. Well, old Mr Fat Albert Sherriff of San Marcos came over, did not feel the "taking shoes off in the house" thing applied to him, and told us that there was nothing he could do. He smelled the evidence and said, "ya, it show does smell fonky"... yes, that's what we're worried about... we don't want some unsuspecting child to eat one and have some adverse reaction... what can we do?? that's why we called you, the "local authority".. our "tax dollars at work" and there's NOTHING you can do?

That's right boys and girls... he left (I think he wanted to eat the candy, actually) and told me to call Reeses. I have yet to speak to a real person, but Jadyn and I are on the case. Stay tuned.

It's endearing when you're 6.5 with a toothless smile...
